A to Z of Food Storage

Asparagus

Best Storage:

Fridge

Treat asparagus like cut flowers! Trim 1-2cm off the ends and stand upright in a jar of water. Keep in the fridge. Change water every couple of days. Ethylene sensitive: keep away from foods that release ethylene so they don’t ripen too quickly.

Freezer?

Yes

Blanch 2-5 mins. Cool in ice water. Flash freeze in a single layer on a baking paper lined tray so they don’t stick together, then transfer to an airtight container / zip lock bag in your freezer.

Use it up!

Pan fry with your favourite spices and toss through a salad or pickle them to preserve . Use Defrosted asparagus in soups, casseroles and dips.
