Asbestos Disposal Update - Lismore City Council
The Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre on Wyrallah Road is NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCEPT ANY ASBESTOS WASTE until further notice. This includes all domestic (including household kits), commercial or any other waste containing asbestos. The facility’s current landfill cell has reached capacity faster than expected and Council is in the process of expanding and constructing a new landfill cell to cope with the growing needs of our community.
It is anticipated that the new cell will be operational before the end of the year.
To locate an alternative facility for asbestos disposal please refer to the NSW Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website www.epa.nsw.gov.au. Search: 'facilities that accept household asbestos' for a list of facilities licensed to accept asbestos waste in the Northern Rivers. The closest ones are at Casino, Kyogle, Grafton and Stotts Creek (Tweed Shire). Please note some facilities require notice and prior approval before delivery and/or acceptance.
New Lismore Recycled Market
Lismore City Council is launching its new Lismore Recycled Market this month, with the first market on Saturday, 19 March. The Lismore Recycled Market will be held on the third Saturday of every month next door to the Lismore Revolve Shop, which is located within the Lismore Recycling & Recovery Centre on Wyrallah Road. Stallholders will sell their goods from a series of shipping containers on-site, and the Lismore Revolve Shop will be open so people can browse for second-hand goods. What a great initiative from Lismore City Council! We choose to reuse too!

Drop Off Free at your CRC
Did you know there's a lot more that you can recycle, beyond what goes into your household recycling bin? Problem wastes including paints, oils, gas bottles, batteries, fluro tubes and bulbs and smoke detectors do not belong in your household bins. These items can be dropped off at your local Community Recycling Centre (CRC) for recycling or safe disposal for FREE.
From January 2017 the final CRC in the region’s network of 8 such centres opened in the Tweed. The Tweed CRC is located at the Stotts Creek Resource Recovery Centre, Ledday’s Creek Rd, Stotts Creek. Other CRCs are located at Ballina, Byron, Lismore, Casino, Kyogle, Grafton and Maclean. If you’re a NSW resident you can Drop off Free at any CRC in the region or in fact any CRC in NSW.
