The Green Bin

Did you know that about half of all waste produced by Australian households is made up of food scraps, garden waste and other organic matter, all of which can be recycled in our green bins?

Green Bins are currently available for householders in the following Council areas in the Northern Rivers region: Balllina Shire, Byron Shire, Clarence Valley, Lismore City, Richmond Valley and Tweed Shire.

Click on the Council name above to see the latest on how you can recycle in your local Council area.

What goes in your green bin?

  • Garden waste
  • Food waste – including leftovers, meat bones and seafood
  • Spoiled paper and cardboard – including tissues, pizza boxes and paper towels
  • Tea bags and coffee grindings

NO PLASTIC BAGS, NO DEGRADABLE OR BIODEGRADABLE BAGS

Only Council approved compostable bags are accepted.

+If you live in Kyogle Council, you can easily participate in food and garden waste recycling by home composting. Contact the NE Waste Education Coordinator to find out more.
